Motorstead arranges breakdown and recovery assistance across South East London, including Catford, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bromley, Beckenham and surrounding areas.
It depends on where you are, where the vehicle is going, the time of day, the vehicle itself and how accessible it is. We check availability, then give you the price before anything is dispatched — you are never committed until you have agreed it. There is no call-out fee for asking.
How long will I be waiting?
We will not promise you a time before we know one, because that helps nobody standing at the roadside. Once we have checked which operators are free we give you the current estimate, and we tell you if traffic or conditions change it. You will get a realistic answer rather than an optimistic one.
Do I need to be a member?
No. There is nothing to join and no annual cover to buy. You pay for the help you need on the day, at a price agreed with you first.
Is anyone actually there at 3am?
Yes — calls and enquiries are answered 24 hours a day, every day, by a person rather than a machine. Recovery availability is then confirmed operator by operator. Mechanical inspections and repairs are arranged during the relevant specialist’s hours rather than overnight.
I don’t know where I am. Can you still help?
Yes, and it is more common than you would think. Tap “Use my current location” on this page and your phone tells us exactly where you are, or send it to us on WhatsApp. A road name, a junction number or a nearby shop is usually enough as well.
I’ve broken down on the motorway. What should I do?
Get yourself and any passengers somewhere safe first, behind the barrier where possible, and call 999 if you are in a live lane or in danger. Then call us and we will arrange recovery from there. Do not stand near moving traffic while you are on the phone to us.
What do you need to know from me?
Where you are, a number we can call you back on, what has happened, and the registration if you have it. It helps to know whether the vehicle rolls and steers, and whether you are somewhere safe. If you do not know something, say so — we will work with what you have.
Where will my car be taken?
Wherever you decide — home, a workshop, secure storage or somewhere else entirely. If you are not sure where it should go, tell us what is wrong with it and we will help you work that out before it moves.
It’s an electric car. Does that change anything?
It can. Many electric, automatic and four-wheel-drive vehicles cannot be towed conventionally and need a flatbed or specific equipment. That is exactly why we ask for the vehicle details up front — sending the wrong truck wastes your evening as well as ours.
It just will not start. Is that a recovery job?
Not always, and a jump start is usually the cheapest outcome. If the battery or charging system has genuinely failed we will tell you that rather than getting you going and leaving you to break down again a mile down the road.
What happens once it is recovered?
That is your call. If it needs work we can arrange the repair through the appropriate specialist, priced and approved separately. Recovery never obliges you to have the repair done through us.
Can you move a car that is not broken down?
Yes. We move non-runners, auction purchases and vehicles going between addresses. Send both postcodes and tell us whether it starts, rolls and steers, and we will price it.
